Discover the inside scoop on our unforgettable Spain trip!
Hello, lovely readers! How was your weekend? Ours was spent at the magical Aulani resort, where we indulged in lazy river rides and all things Disney. P and I can never get enough of Disney adventures!
Today, I’m wrapping up our Spain journey with one last recap. I apologize for stretching this out, but I have so much to share! I can already feel the pull to return, and with the Pilot retiring from the Air Force soon, we have endless possibilities ahead. The idea of Fitnessista in Sevilla sounds pretty amazing, right?
Let’s dive into the questions you sent in on Instagram!

Spain Q&A Post
Did you encounter any challenges with language barriers? I’m hesitant to travel without knowing the language.
While my family speaks Spanish and I studied it in college, I lacked confidence in speaking it fluently. I made it a goal to improve my spoken Spanish skills and started taking weekly Italki private lessons earlier this year. Practicing in Spain was an incredible experience, and I found the locals to be patient and encouraging.
If you’re considering learning Spanish, Italki is a fantastic resource. You can also download this audiobook for essential travel phrases.
Why did you choose to visit Sevilla over other Spanish cities?
We were drawn to Sevilla because of our dear friends residing there. They rave about the city, and we wanted to reunite with them (and for P to reunite with her bestie!). Our future plans include exploring Madrid, Barcelona, and venturing into Portugal.
Can you share more about the area you stayed in, the food scene, and your overall experience?
We opted to stay near our friends in Alfalfa Plaza, a vibrant neighborhood with an array of dining options, cafes, and shopping spots.

From accommodations to transportation and safety, what was your experience like in Sevilla?
We chose a vacation rental through VBRO for our extended stay of about 10 days. Having a kitchen, living area, and laundry facilities was convenient. We mainly explored the city on foot, enjoying leisurely walks to soak in the sights.
For day trips, we rented a car to visit Cádiz and occasionally used public buses for commuting within Sevilla.
Sevilla impressed us with its safety and cleanliness. It felt liberating to witness kids venturing out independently and enjoying the city. Dining outdoors while the children played nearby was a joyful experience, highlighting the city’s relaxed atmosphere.
What culinary delights caught your attention, and how did portion sizes compare?
The food in Sevilla exceeded our expectations. While there was a notable presence of fried dishes and limited vegetables, the overall cuisine felt light and refreshing. Tapas servings were surprisingly generous, perfect for sharing among friends.
I must mention that dining in Spain was a royal experience, offering impeccable quality at affordable prices. Our indulgent meals were far more affordable than comparable options in the US, showcasing the value and freshness of Spanish ingredients.

How do you typically plan your trips? Any trusted websites or travel advisors you rely on?
For this trip, I sought recommendations from a friend who provided invaluable insights. I prefer planning one key activity per day to balance sightseeing with downtime for relaxation and spontaneous adventures.
While I engage travel agents for specific journeys, I enjoy the flexibility of planning certain trips independently to embrace the journey’s flow.
Now, I’m curious – what destinations are calling your name lately? Any travel dreams for this year?
Love and wanderlust,
Gina
