Exploring the wonders of Aulani, the Disney resort in Hawaii, and determining if it lives up to the hype!
Hello, lovely readers! How was your weekend? I hope it was filled with joy and relaxation. Our recent days have been quite eventful as we settle back into school routines after two incredible summer vacations – one in Spain and the other in Hawaii, where we had the pleasure of staying at Aulani.
My journey with Aulani has been a unique one. Years ago, I was supposed to visit the property on a press tour, but due to unforeseen circumstances including an emergency landing during a flight and the birth of our niece on the same day, I missed the opportunity. Since then, I’ve been eager to experience Aulani firsthand. During our previous visit to Waikiki, we attended a luau at Paradise Cove and knew that our next trip to Hawaii would include a stay at Aulani.
Prior to our trip, I was swamped with work commitments, trying to wrap up projects and ensure a smooth transition while I unplugged for the vacation. I sought the assistance of Laura, a travel agent who made our booking process a breeze. She also helped secure our reservations for the Aulani luau, which turned out to be a fantastic decision. I highly recommend Laura for all your travel needs, especially for family and international trips.

Reviewing the Aulani Disney Resort
Let’s delve into the enchanting world of Aulani, a place that surpassed all my expectations. As self-proclaimed Disney enthusiasts – with frequent trips to Disneyland and Disney World, multiple Disney cruises, and a forthcoming cruise this fall – we were thrilled with the seamless integration of Disney magic and Hawaiian beauty at Aulani. The resort combines the best of both worlds with exceptional food, impeccable cleanliness, unparalleled service, breathtaking scenery, and the warm hospitality of the Aloha spirit.
From the private beach, snorkeling reef, diverse pool options, dining choices, and luau experience, Aulani offers a remarkable stay.
Let’s delve into the specifics:
Dining Options
Aulani boasts a diverse range of dining experiences to cater to every palate and preference, from casual bites to fine dining delights.
Makahiki – The Bounty of the Islands: Aulani’s main dining venue, Makahiki, serves up buffet-style meals that highlight Hawaiian flavors. Families love the character breakfast here, where kids can mingle with beloved Disney characters while enjoying a hearty meal. The dinner menu at Makahiki features a mix of local and international dishes, accompanied by live entertainment that brings a touch of Hawaiian culture to the table.
‘Ama’Ama: For a more upscale dining experience, ‘Ama’Ama offers a breathtaking ocean view and a menu that showcases fresh, local ingredients. Perfect for a romantic dinner or a special family celebration.
Quick Service Options: On days when you crave a quick bite, several spots around the resort offer grab-and-go options. Ulu Café has a variety of grab-and-go items, pizzas, and breakfast dishes, while Mama’s Snack Stop is known for its hot dogs, fish and chips, and Hawaiian shave ice. The beachside kiosk serves up Dole whip and boba tea, much to the delight of our little ones.
Pools and Slides
Aulani’s pool area is a major attraction, offering something for everyone – from thrilling water slides to serene relaxation spots.
Waikolohe Valley: The heart of Aulani’s pool area, this zone features a lazy river, water slides, and various pools for all age groups. The Waikolohe Stream lazy river is a family favorite for its leisurely float through lush gardens. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, two water slides are available, much to the delight of our children.
Keiki Cove: Catering to families, Keiki Cove is a splash zone designed for younger children, complete with water jets, small slides, and interactive play elements.
Infinity Pool: Adults looking for a calm retreat will appreciate the infinity pool, offering a tranquil setting with ocean views, ideal for unwinding with a cocktail and soaking in the stunning surroundings.
